Synopsis:
“Annie and Lee were just children when a brutal revolution changed their world, giving everyone—even the lowborn—a chance to test into the governing class of dragonriders.
Now they are both rising stars in the new regime, despite backgrounds that couldn’t be more different. Annie’s lowborn family was executed by dragonfire, while Lee’s aristocratic family was murdered by revolutionaries. Growing up in the same orphanage forged their friendship, and seven years of training have made them rivals for the top position in the dragonriding fleet.
But everything changes when survivors from the old regime surface, bent on reclaiming the city.
With war on the horizon and his relationship with Annie changing fast, Lee must choose to kill the only family he has left or to betray everything he’s come to believe in. And Annie must decide whether to protect the boy she loves . . . or step up to be the champion her city needs.
From debut author Rosaria Munda comes a gripping adventure that calls into question which matters most: the family you were born into, or the one you’ve chosen.”
It has been some time since a book has blown me away this much; I’ve been reduced to nothing but a mess of emotions in a puddle on the floor. This addicting new fantasy world has my heart. I love the characters and I am beyond impressed with how well developed with world building is. Oh… and did I mention the dragons?
My favorite part of this book was easily the characters. I wanted to reach into the book and hug Lee and Annie more times than I can count. They were unique, morally gray characters who you can’t help but cheer for. Their dynamic was electric and the bond they had captured my heart. I also loved all of the side characters and the unique dynamics between the dragonriders. I’m really looking forward to watching how the relationships change in the future books!
(Also, I can’t not mention how much I love Duck. He’s one the side characters and he is actually a cinnamon roll in human form. Towards the end of the book I was such an emotional mess I started crying about how much I love him. He’s so pure. I want an IRL Duck.)
The world building in this story is masterful. Munda hit a perfect balance between showing and telling which made the world so much more captivating. The political intrigue was incredibly written and I loved the tense and fragile political balance that Munda captured.
Then of course there’s the dragon aspect of the world building. To make a long story short, this is my favorite book featuring dragons now! The unique dynamic between riders and dragons was incredibly interesting and I was fascinated by the entire dragon system. This story will make you fall in love with dragons and make you wish you could have one of your own.
Oh my gosh, I adored this book. It’s a new favorite book of mine that will stay with me long after I’ve read it. I will be counting down the days until the sequel. I loved every moment I spent reading Fireborne and I’m looking forward to what Munda will have in store for the sequel!
Thank you to the publisher for sending me an early finished copy of Fireborne!
