Hello friends! Happy new year to you all. I finally sat down today to write out my December 2020 Reading Wrap-up and completely surprised myself with how much I read last month. I managed to read six books! Compared to previous months (only two in November) this was incredible. I was off of school for nearly all of December, which I think may have been the biggest help for my tbr pile. That, on top of many new book purchases and gifts, has made my desire to read increase a lot! I’ve been much more motivated and driven, and I hope that my energy doesn’t stop soon.
In other December news, I think this was a good month for me? I got a new job, hit 6 thousand friends over on my bookstagram, got chosen as a rep for Chasing Chapters , and I have a few very exciting bookish things coming up in the new year!
Now onto the books! My reading in December was pretty decent with a total of six reads…
- The Cousins by Karen M. McManus 3/5 stars
- A Heart so Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer 4.5/5 stars
- Rent a Boyfriend by Gloria Chao 4/5 stars
- The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes 3/5 stars
- You Have a Match by Emma Lord 5/5 stars
- Wrath (short story) by Kara Thomas 5/5 stars
The Cousins by Karen M. McManus
While I’ve been a fan of this author for a long time, this release wasn’t my favorite of hers. I loved the characters and the concept for the mystery, but I wasn’t too hooked into it. I struggled to get emotionally connected to the story which made this more of an “eh” book to me. I’m still looking forward to her future books, but maybe with slightly lowered expectations?
A Heart so Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer
Finally, after owning a copy of this book for 11 months, I read it! I thought that this was a fantastic continuation of A Curse so Dark and Lonely and now I’m more excited than ever for the last book. I loved the new characters this book focused on, so much… maybe even more than the characters from the first book, honestly. I cannot wait to see how everything comes together for the ending; I know it’s going to break my heart.
Rent a Boyfriend by Gloria Chao
I adored this book! It was the fake dating romance that I needed this time of year. As a bonus, it also takes place around the holidays which made it even more enjoyable (but of course it would still be fantastic year around). The plot was amazing and It gave me alllll the feels.
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Sadly, this book got way too overhyped for me. I went into it with high expectations after seeing a constant stream of good reviews, and I was let down. It wasn’t a bad book, it was enjoyable, but I still found myself let down and struggling to connect to the Hawthorne boys. I think I might give this story another shot when the sequel comes out (because the mystery is cool), but I’ll go into it much more cautiously when I do.
You Have a Match by Emma Lord
This book was INCREDIBLE. It’s one of my most anticipated 2021 releases, and I was not let down. Emma Lord absolutely nailed it again with her sophomore novel, which is just amazing. I can’t express my love for her books enough; I would give this 6/5 stars if that was possible!
Wrath by Kara Thomas
(No cover available). In order to get another title done by the new year I decided to read this short story from Kara Thomas! It’s a short story set right before the events of Little Monsters and it was spooky! It made me really want to pick up Little Monsters again, so it might be time for a reread!
And just like that, it’s a whole new year! I hope you’re all having an incredible new year so far.
