It has been an unfortunately long amount of time since my last five star read, so I decided the dig into my TBR pile and pull out a few titles that I really think I’m going to love! These five books have been on my to-read list for a long while now and I’m looking forward to reading them all. When I drafted this list I focused on three key rules of prediction: 1) It must sound like a story that I’m going to love. 2) Have I read anything from that author before, and what did I think of the author’s other books? 3) Have I read any reviews about that book?
With those rules in mind I came up with this little list of 5 Star Predictions:
- Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Synopsis: “The year is 2380, and the graduating cadets of Aurora Academy are being assigned their first missions. Star pupil Tyler Jones is ready to recruit the squad of his dreams, but his own boneheaded heroism sees him stuck with the dregs nobody else in the Academy would touch…
A cocky diplomat with a black belt in sarcasm
A sociopath scientist with a fondness for shooting her bunkmates
A smart-ass techwiz with the galaxy’s biggest chip on his shoulder
An alien warrior with anger management issues
A tomboy pilot who’s totally not into him, in case you were wondering
And Ty’s squad isn’t even his biggest problem—that’d be Aurora Jie-Lin O’Malley, the girl he’s just rescued from interdimensional space. Trapped in cryo-sleep for two centuries, Auri is a girl out of time and out of her depth. But she could be the catalyst that starts a war millions of years in the making, and Tyler’s squad of losers, discipline-cases and misfits might just be the last hope for the entire galaxy.
They’re not the heroes we deserve. They’re just the ones we could find. Nobody panic. “
Although Sci-fi is not normally my thing, I LOVED Kaufman and Kristoff’s Illuminae Files trilogy. I’ve been excited to read their next collaboration for some time now and since the second book in this new story will be out soon I think it may finally be time to pick up Aurora Rising. These authors are very talented and I’ve heard a lot of great reviews for this title, which is why I think I’ll give it 5/5 stars!
2. A Thousand Perfect Notes by C.G. Drews
Synopsis: “An emotionally charged story of music, abuse and, ultimately, hope.
Beck hates his life. He hates his violent mother. He hates his home. Most of all, he hates the piano that his mother forces him to play hour after hour, day after day. He will never play as she did before illness ended her career and left her bitter and broken. But Beck is too scared to stand up to his mother, and tell her his true passion, which is composing his own music – because the least suggestion of rebellion on his part ends in violence.
When Beck meets August, a girl full of life, energy and laughter, love begins to awaken within him and he glimpses a way to escape his painful existence. But dare he reach for it? ”
When I first heard of this book I was hooked on the synopsis instantly. It sounds heartbreaking and beautiful, which is something I love to read all about. Then, when all the praising reviews started to pour in I knew I had to get this book! I just recently purchased a copy and I’m excited to read it… the reviews & synopsis together make me think that I’ll love this story and give it five stars.
3. Stealing Home by Becky Wallace
Synopsis: “Fight for your dreams, even if it means breaking a few rules.
Seventeen-year-old Ryan Russell has life perfectly planned. If she keeps up her hard work, one day she’ll take over the family business: owning the Buckley Beavers, a minor league baseball team, and become one of the only female General Managers in the sport.
But when the newest member of the Beavers, child-phenom Sawyer Campbell, shows up, Ryan’s carefully laid plans are thrown a major curveball. Sawyer is far more charming than the arrogant jocks she usually manages, his ambition rivals her own workaholic nature—and he’s completely out of bounds. Fraternizing is against every rule in the Beaver’s handbook.
Then Ryan’s divorced parents butt heads over the future of the Beavers, and her mom plans to sell her shares to a business group known for relocating teams. If this happens, Ryan’s dreams of becoming GM disappear. In a bid to save her future, she partners with Sawyer to use his star power to draw in sponsors who will keep the team in Buckley. But the more time she spends with him, the more impossible it becomes to play by the Beaver’s rules, and she can’t afford a strikeout on the path to her dreams.
Full count with two outs, Ryan’s one pitch away from losing the whole ball game.”
I discovered this sporty romance from @iam.caryn on Instagram and I’ve been looking forward to it since! Caryn is a lovely bookstagrammer, who I happen to share a fair amount of bookish opinions with…which means I’m always adding books to my TBR because of her! This book caught my eye in particular because it’s a sport romance, which I’ve been wanting to read more of. With Caryn’s great review and the synopsis I think this will be a five star read for me.
4. Rebel by Marie Lu
Synopsis: “Respect the Legend. Idolize the Prodigy. Celebrate the Champion. But never underestimate the Rebel.
Eden Wing has been living in his brother’s shadow for years. Even though he’s a top student at his academy in Ross City, Antarctica, and a brilliant inventor, most people know him only as Daniel Wing’s little brother.
A decade ago, Daniel was known as Day, the boy from the streets who led a revolution that saved the Republic of America. But Day is no longer the same young man who was once a national hero. These days he’d rather hide out from the world and leave his past behind. All that matters to him now is keeping Eden safe―even if that also means giving up June, the great love of Daniel’s life.
As the two brothers struggle to accept who they’ve each become since their time in the Republic, a new danger creeps into the distance that’s grown between them. Eden soon finds himself drawn so far into Ross City’s dark side, even his legendary brother can’t save him. At least not on his own . . .
With unmatched suspense and her signature cinematic storytelling, #1 New York Times—bestselling author Marie Lu plunges readers back into the unforgettable world of Legend for a truly grand finale. ”
I am honestly a little mad at myself for not having read this already. I loved the Legend trilogy when I first read it and yet I still haven’t grabbed my copy of Rebel. With Marie Lu’s incredible writing and that heart grabbing synopsis, I have a feeling that this story will be a 5/5 star read.
5. Scavenge the Stars by Tara Sim
Synopsis: “When Amaya rescues a mysterious stranger from drowning, she fears her rash actions have earned her a longer sentence on the debtor ship where she’s been held captive for years. Instead, the man she saved offers her unimaginable riches and a new identity, setting Amaya on a perilous course through the coastal city-state of Moray, where old-world opulence and desperate gamblers collide.
Amaya wants one thing: revenge against the man who ruined her family and stole the life she once had. But the more entangled she becomes in this game of deception—and as her path intertwines with the son of the man she’s plotting to bring down—the more she uncovers about the truth of her past. And the more she realizes she must trust no one…
Packed with high-stakes adventure, romance, and dueling identities, this gender-swapped retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo is the first novel in an epic YA fantasy duology, perfect for fans of Sarah J. Maas, Sabaa Tahir, and Leigh Bardugo.”
Again, I discovered this title on Bookstagram and now I cannot wait to read it! The synopsis sounds very interesting and the amount of positive reviews that I’ve seen are innumerable. I just bought myself a copy of this book and I’m hoping it’ll be a five star read.
