This year is AMAZING for YA releases (& debuts) and I am bubbling with excitement! My list of releases to order is beyond massive and there are already so many upcoming titles that I’ve already preordered. So, for today’s post I wanted to share some of the books I’m looking forward to so that we can all be excited for some great sounding books together.

The Best Laid Plans by Cameron Lund
(PenguinTeen/Razorbill 04.07.20)
Synopsis: “High school senior Keely Collins takes on firsts, lasts, and everything in between in this sweet, sex-positive rom-com for fans of Meg Cabot and Jenny Han.
It seemed like a good plan at first.
When the only other virgin in her group of friends loses it at Keely’s own eighteenth birthday party, she’s inspired to take things into her own hands. She wants to have that experience too (well, not exactly like that–but with someone she trusts and actually likes), so she’s going to need to find the guy, and fast. Problem is, she’s known all the boys in her small high school forever, and it’s kinda hard to be into a guy when you watched him eat crayons in kindergarten.
So she can’t believe her luck when she meets a ridiculously hot new guy named Dean. Not only does he look like he’s fallen out of a classic movie poster, but he drives a motorcycle, flirts with ease, and might actually be into her.
But Dean’s already in college, and Keely is convinced he’ll drop her if he finds out how inexperienced she is. That’s when she talks herself into a new plan: her lifelong best friend, Andrew, would never hurt or betray her, and he’s clearly been with enough girls that he can show her the ropes before she goes all the way with Dean. Of course, the plan only works if Andrew and Keely stay friends–just friends–so things are about to get complicated.”
Hello cute alert! I’ve been excited for this books for months now and I still cannot get over how great it sounds. And, as I type this, I am happy to say I recently traded for an ARC so that I can get to this story soon!
2. Time of Our Lives by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka
(PenguinTeen 04.21.20)
Synopsis: “A boy desperate to hold on, a girl ready to let go.
Fitz Holton waits in fear for the day his single mother’s early-onset Alzheimer’s starts stealing her memory. He’s vowed to stay close to home to care for her in the years to come–never mind the ridiculous college tour she’s forcing him on to visit schools where he knows he’ll never go. Juniper Ramirez is counting down the days until she can leave home, a home crowded with five younger siblings and zero privacy. Against the wishes of her tight-knit family, Juniper plans her own college tour of the East Coast with one goal: get out.
When Fitz and Juniper cross paths on their first college tour in Boston, they’re at odds from the moment they meet– while Juniper’s dying to start a new life apart for her family, Fitz faces the sacrifices he must make for his. Their relationship sparks a deep connection–in each other’s eyes, they glimpse alternate possibilities regarding the first big decision of their adult lives.
Time of Our Lives is a story of home and away, of the wonder and weight of memory, of outgrowing fears and growing into the future. ”
Is anybody really shocked to see me talking about Emily Wibberley and Austin Siegemund Broka (aka Wibbroka) in this post? I’ve been waiting for this book since way back before it had a cover and was still listed as “As We Go Forth” on Goodreads!
3. What I Like About You by Marisa Kanter
(Simon & Schuster 04.07.20)
Synopsis: “Is it still a love triangle if there are only two people in it?
There are a million things that Halle Levitt likes about her online best friend, Nash.
He’s an incredibly talented graphic novelist. He loves books almost as much as she does. And she never has to deal with the awkwardness of seeing him in real life. They can talk about anything…
Except who she really is.
Because online, Halle isn’t Halle—she’s Kels, the enigmatically cool creator of One True Pastry, a YA book blog that pairs epic custom cupcakes with covers and reviews. Kels has everything Halle doesn’t: friends, a growing platform, tons of confidence, and Nash.
That is, until Halle arrives to spend senior year in Gramps’s small town and finds herself face-to-face with real, human, not-behind-a-screen Nash. Nash, who is somehow everywhere she goes—in her classes, at the bakery, even at synagogue.
Nash who has no idea she’s actually Kels.
If Halle tells him who she is, it will ruin the non-awkward magic of their digital friendship. Not telling him though, means it can never be anything more. Because while she starts to fall for Nash as Halle…he’s in love with Kels. ”
I’ve been excited for this book for numerous reasons… for example it follows a teen YA blogger and there’s baking! Which, are two of my favorite things in the world. The synopsis of this one sounds adorable and like a lot of fun so, I’m looking forward to reading it!
4. Verona Comics by Jennifer Dugan
(PenguinTeen/ G.P. Putnam 04.21.20)
Synopsis: “Jubilee has it all together. She’s an elite cellist, and when she’s not working in her stepmom’s indie comic shop, she’s prepping for the biggest audition of her life. Ridley is barely holding it together. His parents own the biggest comic-store chain in the country, and Ridley can’t stop disappointing them–that is, when they’re even paying attention. They meet one fateful night at a comic convention prom, and the two can’t help falling for each other. Too bad their parents are at each other’s throats every chance they get, making a relationship between them nearly impossible . . . unless they manage to keep it a secret. Then again, the feud between their families may be the least of their problems. As Ridley’s anxiety spirals, Jubilee tries to help but finds her focus torn between her fast-approaching audition and their intensifying relationship. What if love can’t conquer all? What if each of them needs more than the other can give?”
First of all, can we just appreciate the beautiful cover of this book? Because….wow. I love the art and was instantly drawn to this book because of it, BUT the thing that has kept me interested is the comics and rivalry from an author who had a fantastic YA debut last year!
5. Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Soloman
(Simon Pulse 06.16.20)
Synopsis: “Today, she hates him.
It’s the last day of senior year. Rowan Roth and Neil McNair have been bitter rivals for all of high school, clashing on test scores, student council elections, and even gym class pull-up contests. While Rowan, who secretly wants to write romance novels, is anxious about the future, she’d love to beat her infuriating nemesis one last time.
Tonight, she puts up with him.
When Neil is named valedictorian, Rowan has only one chance at victory: Howl, a senior class game that takes them all over Seattle, a farewell tour of the city she loves. But after learning a group of seniors is out to get them, she and Neil reluctantly decide to team up until they’re the last players left—and then they’ll destroy each other.
As Rowan spends more time with Neil, she realizes he’s much more than the awkward linguistics nerd she’s sparred with for the past four years. And, perhaps, this boy she claims to despise might actually be the boy of her dreams.
Tomorrow…maybe she’s already fallen for him.”
Y’all, again, the cute alert is at fall blast. I’m in love with the idea of this story and I cannot wait to discover Rowan and Neil’s story. I’ve always been a huge fan of enemies-to-lovers romance (especially when the rivalry stems from education) and this one in particular seems so unique with it’s focus on a senior class game!
6. The Perfect Escape Suzanne Park
(Sourcebooks Fire 04.07.20)
Synopsis: “Love is a battlefield in this hysterical rom-com debut.
Nate Jae-Woo Kim wants to be rich, just like everyone else at the elite private school where he’s a scholarship student. When one of the wealthiest kids at school offers Nate a huge sum of money to commit grade fraud, he knows that taking the windfall would help support his prideful Korean family—and they need the money, since Nate’s dad just lost his job. But is compromising his integrity worth it?
Kate Anderson wants a fresh start, away from her controlling father. She fantasizes about escaping to New York, where she can pursue her dreams. But how can Kate get there when she can’t even buy dinner without his approval?
Worlds collide when Nate meets Kate at the zombie-themed escape room where they both work. As sparks fly, fate steps in: a local tech company is hosting a weekend-long survivalist competition with a huge cash prize that could solve all their problems. The real challenge? Making it through the weekend with their hearts intact… ”
I am blown away by how unique and creative this book sounds! I’ve never heard of a book all about characters surviving an escape room and I’m beyond thrilled that this will be coming out in 2020! It sounds like everything I love in a contemporary book & I cannot wait to dive into the E-ARC I have of it. (PS, a huge thank you to the publisher for trusting me with an E-ARC of this title!)
So, with my list wrapped up, what books are you looking forward to that are coming out this year? Recommend me some titles and leave my TBR even bigger than it was to begin with 🙂
