Synopsis:
“Meet Daisy Winters. She’s an offbeat sixteen-year-old Floridian with mermaid-red hair; a part time job at a bootleg Walmart, and a perfect older sister who’s nearly engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. Daisy has no desire to live in the spotlight, but relentless tabloid attention forces her to join Ellie at the relative seclusion of the castle across the pond.
While the dashing young Miles has been appointed to teach Daisy the ropes of being regal, the prince’s roguish younger brother kicks up scandal wherever he goes, and tries his best to take Daisy along for the ride. The crown–and the intriguing Miles–might be trying to make Daisy into a lady . . . but Daisy may just rewrite the royal rulebook to suit herself”
Ahhh! This book is so cute and entertaining. I hadn’t heard of Royals until recently, and I’m mad the universe kept it from me for so long. This is my type of book: swoony, funny and was keeping me up until the early morning hours to finish it. The story will sweep you off your feet and keeping you laughing until the last line.
The characters in this book were such an interesting bunch. Daisy, the protagonist, was extremely well written and full of wit. I loved reading from her point of view because she kept things entertaining. There were several instances where I had to bite my tongue to stop myself from giggling like a weirdo while her dialogue. Plus, when you add her and a ton of mischievous and dramatic royalty together the banter gets even better. This book was pretty short, yet Rachel Hawkins packed in a large cast of characters who were all memorable. I applaud her for that. She developed all of them into genuine people who made this story one that I won’t be forgetting soon.
One of my favorite things in this book was the hate to love kinda romance that was going on. It was adorable!!! The romance also blossomed out of a fake relationship which is one of my favorite tropes! My heart couldn’t take these two characters together and how much of a slow burn romance they had. I didn’t go into the story expecting a romance, especially after certain events in the first few chapters, but I’m glad it was included. It made the story wilder and kept me impatiently waiting for that first kiss moment.
The entire story felt like one swift ride to the finish. I didn’t want to put the book because I just had to know what happened next. It’s the perfect fluffy story to read if you’re trapped in the claws of a reading slump. It’s also perfect for ruining your sleep schedule! But, not getting enough sleep is worth it for a cute book…. right?
On that note: I’m excited that my sleep schedule will be ruined again in the future because Rachel Hawkins is writing another book following some of the characters! I knew after reading Royals that there was more room for stories and I cannot wait to see what else the author has in store for us. I think I’d read just about anything Rachel Hawkins writes about these characters because whatever it is will be golden.
