Synopsis: “Everyone in Fairview knows the story.
Pretty and popular high school senior Andie Bell was murdered by her boyfriend, Sal Singh, who then killed himself. It was all anyone could talk about. And five years later, Pip sees how the tragedy still haunts her town.
But she can’t shake the feeling that there was more to what happened that day. She knew Sal when she was a child, and he was always so kind to her. How could he possibly have been a killer?
Now a senior herself, Pip decides to reexamine the closed case for her final project, at first just to cast doubt on the original investigation. But soon she discovers a trail of dark secrets that might actually prove Sal innocent . . . and the line between past and present begins to blur. Someone in Fairview doesn’t want Pip digging around for answers, and now her own life might be in danger.”
My heart is racing. This story was incredible and I am completely in awe right now. I am beyond impressed with this debut author and how interesting this book was. It was beautifully crafted and easily one of the best mystery stories I’ve ever read.
So, first, OH MY GOSH. This was a whirlwind. I never felt like I had a solid guess as to what was going on. The deeper I got into the story the more I stopped trying to guess and just focused on watching the clues unravel. I was extremely impressed with how detailed the entire mystery was and it was so, extremely, well written. I was addicted to this book and couldn’t put it down. Every little detail sucked me in further and left me desperate for answers. Holly Jackson did a fantastic job of creating a gripping and complex mystery that was utterly captivating.
I also loved the characters in this. I thought Pip made for a very interesting narrator and I look forward to seeing more of her in future books. The romance was cute and the banter was adorable! I liked how the romance/character arcs were included in the balance that they were. The entire story was put together masterfully and I felt that the characters and relationships were a nice touch!
Going into this book I had no idea that it was told in multimedia, but I loved it. I loved getting to read the interviews and log entries for Pip’s project.
So, overall, I LOVED this book. It was very enjoyable, interesting, captivating, and very well written. I actively read this book instead of doing school work on more than one occasion because I never wanted to put it down. It was that good. I can’t wait for the sequel and will be counting down the days until it is finally out in the world.
